Your First Classic Car, What to Consider
To many, there is nothing better than the charm of a classic car. When your looking to buy your first classic car there are a lot of things to look at to ensure you get what you are looking for. The most important thing that you need to think about if have decided to purchase and restore your classic car from a dealer is the reputation of that dealer, during the time that I have been in this industry I have had a lot of people ask for help with their classic car search.
When locating a dealer to purchase a classic car from, if your doing the research yourself them you’ll need to ask a lot of questions about the dealer, contact the dealer, or dealers that your researching and get and get to know the people that you’ll be dealing with. The first thing that I’d do is get to know one of the salesmen, or the owner very well, get a feel for what kind of people that they are, just as you would if you were trying to make a new friend, ask a lot of questions, they should be glad to answer all of them for you, explains John Rosatti.
My starting point is always, how long have you been in business, and if you don’t have what I want, can you help me locate it, they should be able to help you if they have been in business for any length of time, a company will build a list of contacts, people who can help them locate cars. Here is an obvious concept, you should not call a dealer if you only have a couple of grand to spend, save up more cash, a reputable dealer won’t sell a car that they can’t back up, and no dealer can back a $2,000 car, it’s just a waste of time for them.
Remember respect is an important thing with most people, don’t think that your time in more important then theirs is, you are exactly equal, and if you look at it that way then you’ll develop a respect for each other, and therefore a good working relationship. In the future, you may rely on the relationship with your dearer to locate classic car parts for your vehicle. Ask the dealer for a list of customers that have dealt with them in the past and contact them, ask each one how their experience was with the dealership, this is always a good indicator of what kind of people your dealing with, because you know people will tell you if they were treated good.
