The BIG BANG or not?
September 10th 2008 08.30 GMT and scientists at the CERN laboratory near Geneva flick the switch to “on” to start up their Large Hadron Collider… not to be confused with the Large Hardon Collider as one news pundit mistakenly announced it!
So what happened?
The idea was to smash protons into each other at speeds Lewis Hamilton can only dream of in order to unlock the secrets of the universe. Did they re-create the “Big Bang”? Did the world as we know it all come to an end, and have we all been re-incarnated as a result?
