Getting Your First Guitar
The guitar has grown to be probably the most interesting and popular musical instruments today. If you wish to begin playing or are purchasing one for a child you might like to cover a couple of points. Below are a few tips.
You will find different guitars meant for different types of music so it helps you quite a lot to know what types of music you want to play. The guitar type is dependent upon the type of music it is meant to play. Buying quality means it is more likely to last and, furthermore, is actually playable! Things are significantly better nowadays but some of the older cheap guitars were enough to put people off for life.
Having a goal
Don’t just get hold of the first one you find. Do your homework and read some reviews. Look at the artists you enjoy and see what type they’re playing. Don’t get hold of the exact same model they’re using as they are likely to be expensive, and you won’t immediately sound like them even though you have what they play. For instance, there’s a huge distinction between guitars intended for jazz music, folk songs and even metal. The end principles are the same so you could learn on whatever type so do not get too hung up on it particularly if you are just looking at a budget range..
What’s your budget?
Prices can vary from pretty cheap guitar and amp package deals up to custom models costing many thousands. You can go on spending “a bit more” until things get out of control. Try to be realistic. A guitar really should be played to have a feel for how good (or bad) it is. If you cannot play at all yet it’s worth taking a friend that can with you to test it. If you go to a store then they will be more than happy to have someone play it for you. In terms of budget you don’t have to spend a fortune but don’t get a train wreck. A little more money up from the lowest priced ones will mean you’ll have something very playable.
Used or borrowed guitar
Why not try an used guitar? If it’s been treated well you can save some cash and you won’t have to spend so much money finding out if you like playing. Ebay and Craigslist are fantastic online options but unless the guitar is local local you won’t be able to properly check it out. A store visit is often the best way to see several 2nd hand guitars and see how they compare to a new one.
Maybe a friend is able to lend you one. Maybe someone you know have tried, given up and their guitar is unused under the bed?. This method is handy as you get to try it out without losing money and, if it works out, you’ll have more skills when you finally decide to purchase.
Arming yourself with some research is invaluable and helps make your first guitar experience an enjoyable and memorable one. What are you waiting for? Buy one and start playing
It’s recommended you read a guitar review before buying a new one. Why not leave your own to let others know what yours is like? You can at www.GuitarCheck.com.
