Cayman Islands’ tourist arrivals continue to grow

The latest figures released from the Cayman Department of Tourism last week reveal that both air and cruise arrivals remained up during the first quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year. Indeed cruise tourism was up by more than 8 per cent on last year, with air arrivals increasing by 2.5 per cent this quarter. These increases are even more impressive given the fact that the first quarter of 2011 had also seen a significant rise on the figures from the same period in 2010. Since the start of 2012, 553,000 cruise passengers arrived in George Town on Grand Cayman, which is a growth of 42,699 (8.4 per cent) on the 2011 figures. January, February and March of this year have each seen a continuing increase in cruise passenger arrivals into the Cayman Islands.
Air arrivals are similarly encouraging, in fact the statistics for March 2012, with 38,763 people arriving on the Islands by plane, was the highest level of air arrivals since March 2001 which saw a staggering 41,558 visitors coming by air. Figures so far for this quarter indicate that more than 96,000 tourists have already passed through the terminals of Owen Roberts International Airport, evidence that the arrival figures are set for yet another year of improvement.
