Cowboy Apparel- Lasting Fashion
The post modern era, or perhaps this should simply be called the current age, has many wonderful attributes not enjoyed by early days. One of the most welcome is the far more relaxed approach to personal styles of dress. Once upon a not so long ago time people were pretty much expected to wear more or less what everyone else wore. Not long before that, there really was not any choice unless you were amongst the wealthiest of society’s members. Thanks perhaps goes to the beatniks and hippies for busting open the constraints on attire.
So what are people wearing today? The range crosses the spectrum. These days the vibe seems to be wear what suits you. Western apparel, with its cowboy boots and hats, western shirts and stove pipe or boot cut jeans is and always will be popular with many folk. Seems cowboy apparel will never go out of style, and that is fine. There are of course plenty of people still rockin’ the classic 70’s jeans, t-shirt, and athletic shoes, same goes for variations on the hippie clothing style. The penny loafers, straight leg jeans, khakis, and button down shirts of the collegiate style truly seem to be here to stay, having kept their grip on the northeast since its 1950’s heyday, as well as a good many other pockets across the states.
One relatively new addition to the clothing style list is goth. From its humble beginnings as a lowly step sibling of the punk and new wave movements, goth has risen to permanent status as both a musical style and a clothing style, even having spawned offspring of its own. Speaking of punk, the style still remains, in fact it has gotten a recent lift with the popularity of the faux-hawk that has recently swept the country. Then too, it has given rise to a sibling, the vegan punk look, which does its best to replicate the hard punk look, just without all the leather. Speaking of leather, your basic biker look continues strong with its classic leather motorcycle jacket, t-shirt, jeans, and bike boots. The list goes on, and on with mods, conservatives, upper crust, fahionistas, shoe gazers, pocket protector intellects, athletes, professionals, playboys, jet setters, gold diggers, floozies, blue collars, and the ubiquitous big box store basics.
Yes, the faces of the fashion industry are many in today’s world. Still it must be said that at the end of the day it is the western wear style of dress that has endured the longest, having continued in an all but unbroken era that started as the west was won in the mid-19th century all the way through to today. That is an unparalleled accomplishment in the modern fashion world, congratulations to it and its adherents.
