Taking the First Small Steps to Going Green

Most of us are looking at ways that we can help to save the environment. Not all of us, though, are able to take the steps of adding a wind turbine, or solar panels to our homes. Furthermore, even if we could, it might spoil the look of a period, or even contemporary home. So, what can you do to “do your bit” to save the world?

Ok, this isn’t going to be an article which suggests taking up an anti-logging stance, or living in a small cabin in the forest. There is a way that you can improve your immediate environment, and help to support a business that is making a difference, though. Have you considered eco painting? Probably not what you were expecting to read, right?

NYC painters are beginning to realize that there is an advantage to offering people alternative “green” paints. You don’t have to employ someone specially; you can buy your own “green” paints through a company like www.Green-painting.com.

What makes eco painting better for you, and the world in general? Have you ever wondered what went into creating paint, in terms of the component parts and the processes? You may already know that many older paints contained lead, and you should be careful when removing them. Did you know, though, that since the 1950s, paints have been using a base of acrylic latex? Or, that these newer bases can be almost as bad for your family, and the environment?

Many of the newer, more environment-friendly paints have been ditching this acrylic latex base in favor of things like soy and mineral. These come from sustainable sources. Because these paints aren’t the chemicals based products of the past, you will find that they are “VOC-free”.

What is “VOC”? Well, if you’ve had nyc painters in at any time over the last few decades, you may have noticed the distinctive “new Paint” smell. Generally the time that smell will be coming from the VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, and they are doing far more harm to you and your family than just making your home smell for a few days.

VOC’s have been found to release harmful toxins into your home, for up to seven years. If you decorate your home regularly, then the likelihood is that you will never be free of them. What do VOC’s actually do anyway? Volatile organic compounds, as mentioned, contain harmful toxins. That’s just the start of it, though. They can contain as much as three times the amount of harmful toxins as you would breathe in normally – if you were standing at the street corner, during rush hour.

Of course, these potential pollutants could find their way into the eco system during the manufacturing process, or by dishonest people disposing of excess paint after a job has been completed.

Naturally, though, there would be no point in suggesting a change if the paints available weren’t suitable for your home. At www.Green-painting.com you’ll find colors that will suit every home, no matter whether they are traditional, contemporary, or even ultra modern.

If you thought that you weren’t in a position to make a stand (even a small one), against the things being done to the environment, then it’s time to think again. Not only can you help to change the way that paint is being made – by not buying paints containing VOC’s – you can still get the colors that you want for your home. Not a bad way to make your stand, is it?
