The Influence of HTML 5 on the Internet
HTML 5 is the future of the internet. It is the internet programming language for structuring and presenting world wide web content that is still in development and will, like it’s predecessor HTML 4, be the core technology of the Internet. The browsers are wise to it. Firefox and Safari partially support it. Google wave and Google chrome bank on it, and most webdesign bureau professionals are moving forward with great enthusiasm, as they understand what it means for the future of the internet.
HTML 5 is the fifth revision of the web’s core language, HTML. It is a specification about how the language will be formatted and used to provide digital text, images, multimedia, web applications, graphics, search engine voodoo and anything else that might deal with your internet browser. If you don’t know anything about HTML, it still affects you, but only web developers really understand it’s implications. It could mean absolutely nothing to you, yet it could also be an incredibly revolutionary moment in Internet history.
It’s possible that HTML 5 will not pick up speed, and will not be implemented on the ENTIRE internet, though. Not all website will use it, but rest assured, the websites that do decide to use it will have better support in the current PC and mobile browsers. We already know a good deal about HTML 5 because our own very Internet browsers have been keeping us informed. Companies like Google, Apple, and Mozilla are already implementing HTML 5 or preparing for HTML 5.
Native Audio and Graphics (video) Streaming Support
Flash is a ‘plug-in’ that we use with our internet browsers that allow us to do certain things on the internet like watch videos and listen to music and such through our browser. Things are still subject to change with HTML 5, but sites that use flash today like Pandora or YouTube could one day not use it at all, and broadcast video and audio stream directly to you in the fabric of the internet with built in features at your control.
Offline Storage
Sort of like cookies, but an increased amount of space that will allow one-time data and persistent app databases more space. It’s very similar to Google-Gears, but no plug-ins required
Geolocation
GPS on the internet will not be restricted to a single provider’s API or browser feature. With HTML 5, your location will be found automatically and it will tailor your search results, social media updates, and so forth. Location-aware devices are the future of the internet.
Web Development
An honest opinion would be to say that HTML 5 is making it easier to engineer the web. You can build wikis, drag-and-drop tools, forums, chat, and many other modern web elements in a standardized fashion, and have them work exactly alike across all web browsers.
Canvas Drawing
Sites can automatically provide a space on a web page where all kinds of multimedia and graphics can be programmed and drawn directly before you, with no other flash or browser plug-ins required.
More Intelligent Forms
The various user friendly automations and searches on the internet will run much smoother, and be much less of an annoyance to users. The internet on your end will be more individualized for your web surfing experience.
