Developed by Houston Nutraceuticals, No–Fenol is presently the most popular ‘phenol targeting’ enzyme product in the market. This enzyme was developed by on the requests of parents asking for soothing that would enable their kids to add fruits and veggies to their diet. This needed to be done without the problem of polyphenol compounds in their diet.

Every plant contains some amount of phenolic compound. While the structure itself is ubiquitous in nature, it actually is essential for many life processes. Some researcher’s think that the metabolism of a set of kids on the PDD spectrum is not strong enough to process phenolic compounds and this may result in behavioral problems and other physical symptoms like red ears, dark circles and red cheeks. While the actual reason is not clear, it is believed that an excess of phenolic compounds gets stored under the skin and interferes with metabolism and detoxification paths.

How it works: Research indicates that phenolic compounds get modified with the addition of carbohydrates to their structure. This inhibits the crossing required for metabolism. No-Fenol helps the ability of the enzymes in the process to remove the carbohydrate groups in the proteins allowing the process of natural detoxification. The success of No-Fenol of adding the phenolic food into the dietary regimen of children is an commendable improvement.

One of the major compounds found in No-Fenol is Xylanase. It helps breaking down the structural content of the plant cell wall, which primarily are complex carbohydrates. Xylanase is also use in the juice industry to extract juice from sugarcane pulp.

Dosage: there is no specific upper limit specified for the intake of No-Fenol. Even large amount of dosage in experiments with animals indicated that it produced little and no toxicity with intake as high as 80,000 FXU/kg body weight. Thus No-Fenol is recommended only for those with known sensitivity to phenolic compounds.

For most meals, ½ to 1 capsule suffices the necessity. This will be equal to 1 or 2 chewable tabs. Satisfactory results have been seen with not more than a couple of doses in a day. High dosage of No-Fenol however will decrease the firmness of stool.

For the chewable alternatives, a max of 1-2 No-Fenol tabs can be taken along snacks and meals. Dosage depends on the amount of food taken and has nothing to do with the age and body weight of the person.
