In the last couple of years, a cell phone has become one of the basic amenities of every human being. So it is not a surprise that in today’s world, almost every conscious adult has access to one’s own personal cell phone. In fact, with the rise of smart phones, cell phones are being used for greater purposes than just communication, like short messaging services, video calls, transfer of files, pictures, videos from one phone to another. The phone comes with a wide range of services from a camera to Bluetooth to even GPS system. GPS or Global Positioning System is like a marker, placing the phone on the map of a world. It can thereby be tracked, wherever it goes, by the satellites, and thus its position can always be determined. Cell phone GPS tracking is one of the primary purposes this technology was put to effect. Often authorities in emergency situations or when carrying out investigations require this cell phone GPS tracking system to track the location of the cell phone, and hence, the user. It is also
helpful for navigating in unknown cities and locations. This GPS system is what prevents one from getting lost, and also thereby reach one’s destination.
The police and federal authorities also employ another technology of cell phone location tracking. The technology provides the location of the cell phone, once a call is made from it, and received at the destination end. It is widely helpful for the police and authorities in cases of kidnapping and murder, when the ransom call is made from a cell phone. Authorities then use the cell phone location tracking devices to determine the last point of location of the cell phone i.e. from where the call was made. In today’s world, most cell phones can be detected by this type of location tracking, except for certain burner cell phones and some blocked cell phones.
Apart from the presence of the sim card in the cell phone to be tracked, there needs to be a proper cell phone monitoring software as well. The software helps in cell phone monitoring and gives one the present location of the cell phone. The software is built on the technology that it recognises and accepts the call made from a cell phone. It then processes the received call for a certain period of time, tracks the signal back to where it was sent from, and hence identifies the location. However, in order for the software to do so, the call made must be of minimum call duration (generally a minute or so). Any call made for a shorter duration than that, and the cell phone monitoring software will not be able to detect the present location. So it is advisable that for successful cell phone monitoring, one must make sure that the received call lasts for that period of time, during which it’s being processed for the location. This technology finds a number of applications in many fields, thereby reducing theft of
phones and also detecting locations of crimes.
