Divorce Forms – How To Communicate With Your Ex
Throughout our articles section we have posted several articles about ‘how to have a peaceful divorce’ and ‘how to settle your divorce outside of court’. Basically the jist of all of those articles boils down to one crucial bit of advice: communicate with your ex.
The problem with this one crucial bit of advice is that communicating with your ex is not always possible. For whatever reason, there are people in this world who seem to take pride in being stubborn and complicated. Those are the types of people who pride themselves on making other people’s lives complicated as well. Maybe you know one of those people? Or worse yet, maybe you are married to one of them?
In the event that you are married to one of those people, we encourage you to not give up because there is hope. Yes it is true that we recommend you and your ex communicate, but when doing so is not possible, then we want you to fall back on plan B which is articulated below.
With regard to plan B, we can basically sum it up by saying that you are still going to communicate with your ex, but you are going to do so in ways that give you more control over the process.
Below is a list of four ways for you to communicate with your ex that if used, will help you maintain communication, but will also help you maintain your sanity during the process:
Way Number One: Communicate Through Email. Communication through email is a great way to communicate because doing so allows you to express your thoughts. Also, communicating through email creates a paper trail in the event that your ex trys to renege on any agreements that you all have formed.
Way Number Two: Communicate Through Text Message. Communication through text message is a great way because it is quick and convenient. Using text messages is not as effective as using emails because text messages are very limited with regard to you being able to fully express your thoughts. However text messages, like emails, create a paper trail in the event that your ex trys to renege on any agreements that you all have formed.
Way Number Three: Communicate Through Mutual Friend. Communication through a mutual friend is a great way because it allows the ex’s to communicate without having to confront each other. In the event that ways one and two above are impractical, we recommend that you communicate through a mutual friend.
Way Number Four: Communicate Through A Mediator. If communication is a problem for you and your ex, and ways one, two, and three above are impracticable, then we strongly recommend that you and your ex hire a mediator. Whenever you go to mediation, the mediator will sit you in one room and your ex in another room. The mediator will then walk back and forth between the two rooms in order to convey messages, doing so in hopes that a full and final settlement can be negotiated.
