Top Ideas for Throwing a Themed Party

In previous guides I have outlined some sure winners when it comes to throwing an outdoor or dinner party – from ensuring the right ambience such as hanging Chinese lanterns to making your guests comfortable with the right music.

If you want that added stroke of flair however, there’s nothing like a themed party to make a get-together more fun. With a little creativity and forethought, you can make it an unforgettable night.

To help you get a kick start, in the next few guides I will suggest some of the most successful themed party ideas to choose from. See Part 1 and 2 for further ideas.

10 – New York New York

Aim – get into the mood of classy 1950’s Manhattan. Take inspiration from mo,vies such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s or those classic Dick Tracey Private Eye motifs.

Bring back the Big Apple during its heyday – when it comes to decor you won’t go wrong with a simple black and silver colour scheme for that New York feeling, plus throw in a touch of sophisticated jazzy lounge music.

If you’re not partial to doing an elegant sit-down dinner, you could always go for those easy but delicious Manhattan staples – hot dogs, pretzels and cheesecake, or deli pastrami on rye.

11 – Grand Cas.ino

Aim – think James Bond movi.es or that famous m.ovie ‘Ca.sino’ with Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone. Time to get the dice rolling with some Vegas gamb, ling, and of course all done in sheer style.

To really get into the spirit of things, you could rent the services of a fun ca,sino company who will set up roul.ette wheels and bl.ackjack tables. Many of these providers will also supply fake money and croupiers to add to the glamour.

Elegant cocktails and canapés will be in order for this type of evening – an idea if you want to get a little creative is to name cocktails after cas.ino games.

12 – Hawaiian Luau

Aim – bring the balmy feel of a tropical paradise to your home, complete with grass skirts and leis (those beautifully colourful garlands worn round the neck).

If the weather permits, outdoor is best for this theme. If you’re lucky enough to have a pool that would make for an ultimate Hawaiian do, since people can wear swimming costumes and shorts. Even if you simply have a small garden or yard, some shells and fairy lights along with soft Pacific music will do the trick in a pinch. And of course if you can get your hands on a few palm trees that would be perfect!

If you want to go all out on the Hawaiian theme, the traditional food to serve would be kalua pig, lomi salmon and a fish salad called poke. If that sounds a bit too exotic, be sure to serve fish, sweet potatoes, pineapples and rice, plus lots of beer and colourful tropical drinks.

13 – Pamper Party

Aim – this type of get-together is for girl time. Nothing better occasionally than to spend the evening watching tear jerker movi,es and gossiping!

No decoration is necessary for this theme, but what would really go down famously would be to hire in a manicurist and masseuse.

As for snacks, you can’t go wrong with plenty of ice-cream, chocolate and popcorn. Also serve champagne and wine to help everyone unwind.

14 – Masquerade

Aim – glamour is the main idea for this type of theme. A black-tie ball where guests arrive wearing ornate masks will certainly add an air of alluring mystery to the evening.

It’s best to simply keep it chic and classy as far as the decoration goes, since the clothing and masks will be the main event of the party. Do light plenty of candles though and if you really want to go all out you could have a small orchestra playing baroque classical music at the start of the night.

This kind of party is not really geared for eating, but some canapés, cocktails, wine and perhaps dessert would all compliment some elegant dancing.

Conclusion

You can add real spice into an evening by making it a themed event. This is not as tricky as many people might think – the right flair to create an unforgettable atmosphere need not be expensive, such as buying inviting decorations from affordable online suppliers such as the Hanging Lanterns Company. And with a little effort from your guests in terms of wearing a suitable outfit to match the occasion, you can host a truly extraordinary event.
