Jason Blick: the impressive figure behind Cayman Enterprise City
With the realisation of the special economic zone Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) on the horizon, leading specialists in land investments Crown World (http://www.crownworld.com/) looks at the impressive figure behind this ambitious international project.
Jason Blick is the Chief Executive Officer of the very first knowledge-based Special Economic Zone to be built in the Caribbean. It is the combination of Blick’s vision for the Cayman Islands and his solid background in the successful completion of similar technology and media zones in Dubai that makes this passionate young CEO such an asset for the development of the Islands.
Originally a finance law attorney, Blick made his name as an expert in Special Economic Zones in the Middle East in the 1990s. With ten years experience in Dubai behind him, Blick embarked upon a four-year search for Caribbean land to be the location for another Special Economic Zone, a hub for knowledge and commerce. As Blick himself states, “Cayman stood out…It has a forward-thinking government, a very dynamic community, and a wealth of support services we never had in Dubai…I was very grateful for the foresight and vision of the Premier, the Honourable McKeeva Bush. Mr. Bush came to Dubai with us and saw for himself the success of the zones in the Middle East.”
Before long, legislation was passed in the Islands which enabled the germ of the idea for Cayman’s very own Special Economic Zone to become a reality. Indeed, such was the support for the project, the Cayman government, the Civil Service and the private sector helped fast-track initial proceedings. Cayman land for sale was purchased and plans for the CEC’s master campus began to take real shape.
Blick has increased the value of his role in the creation of the CEC by utilising his strong ties with Dubai. He has negotiated a strategic partnership with Dubai Multiple Commodities Centre which shores up trade relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Cayman Islands. Speaking about this partnership, Blick said, “Cayman Enterprise City is the first special economic zone to house commodities teams and this is the only SEZ in the world that has a partnership with Dubai…This is a reflection of their belief in our model and we are very excited about it.”
Jason Blick is characteristically fired up about seeing the dream become a reality: “I want to see the creation of the world’s best knowledge-based global IT and media centre to attract entrepreneurs in a very cohesive and creative environment…I want scientists to someday see Cayman as the exciting and supportive centre for new ideas and concepts in science.” When asked the simple question ‘Why Cayman Enterprise City?’ his answer is more prosaic but no less revealing, however: “Zero taxes!”. Construction on the CEC’s campuses begins this summer.
