Permits: Indian nationals need no permission for trekking in any area outside the inner line. For routes within the inner line, the authorization of the local district judge or the Central Interior Ministry is required in advance. For foreigners, crossing the line is not permitted inside.
Walking up to 4,900 m do not need permission and can be done with a tourist visa. Above 4,900 m, walking can also be done with prior approval of the IMF provided no peak is attempted. Camera permits are also required.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun. There are no regular flights to here. Convenient overnight trains connecting New Delhi Haridwar, the nearest railway head in Garhwal.
