3D printing services and healthcare
If you are a science buff and have been following the 3D printing services development, you will be amazed by the opportunities which are just waiting to be tapped. One of the most important aspects of 3D printing technology is in the field of medical science and healthcare. One of the future uses of this technology is to make organs and skeletal components especially after trauma and organ failures.
Under a research project under the aegis of University of Pennsylvania is seeking to perfect a process which can form new blood vessels. The most important thing about use of 3D printing services is that materials which are compatible with the human body and there is no risk of any rejection by the human body. Scientists have theorized that it a matter of few years before they will be making new organs for the body on demand. Now coming on to how 3D printing services will be used for making new blood vessels. The blood vessels will use sugar as the basic building material. Sugar will be used to first create a vessel which will be stabilized by coating with a polymer which will be made from corn. Next the vessels will be covered with living cells which will convert the sugar into living tissues and we now have a whole network of living blood vessels.
The artificial blood vessels will have a number of applications, especially for making coronary bypass procedure. Till date Doctors have been using blood vessels from other parts of the body for carrying out bypass procedures. Now there is a possibility of making artificial blood vessels using the 3D printing services. This technology will also help to prevent muscular degradation and gangrene due to the blockage of blood vessels of the limbs due to trauma or other reasons.
The future of 3D printing technology is very exciting. Using the same process scientists can now make sugar frameworks of other organs and then coat it with stem cells which will enable the formation of different cells including secreting cells of different organs. The liver and the kidneys are the two organs which have the greatest potential to be made using this revolutionary technology.
I remember reading comics in my childhood about Judge Dredd in which criminals who attempt suicide are kept alive on life support system so that in future the damaged organs are set right and the criminal is made to face charges and imprisonment for his crimes. I realize that today with the advent of 3D technology, it could be a real possibility in the coming future!
