Washing Your Car
I used to be obsessed with washing my car. When you’re seventeen years old and have just gotten your driver’s license and your first car, it means everything to you to make sure that you keep it clean. Especially when you live near the beach or the ocean where there is a lot of salt water in the air, it is often important to make sure that you at least rinse your car off with fresh water once a week in order to prevent oxidation from occurring to your vehicle.
Is there such a thing as washing your car too much? I haven’t heard any reports that expressly state that washing your car too often is a bad thing, so I would have to venture to say that ‘no’, it is not a bad thing to keep your car clean. However, I do think that some people overdo it when it comes to keeping their car clean. After all, when you drive on the road, debris such as dirt, grime and other crud is naturally going to make its way onto your vehicle. Additionally, whenever you park in a parking lot, unless you park really far away in an empty space near no one, you are running the risk of having someone spill something on or near your car as well as the risk of someone opening a door, running a shopping cart or something else hitting your vehicle.
Whenever I am about to leave for a long trip to go home to New York from North Carolina or vice versa, I always make it a point to make sure that my car is in good working order and that the interior of my vehicle is clean. After all, there is nothing more unpleasant than traveling somewhere for hours inside of a filthy car. If I have passengers who are along for a long ride in my car, I discreetly place an empty plastic bag in the front of the car or nearby to wherever it is that they are seated so that any garbage may easily be discarded into it. I also keep a small supply of napkins as well as a hand sanitizer spray in the front area of the car. Little things like this make a HUGE difference when it comes to keeping your car in tip top shape. It also helps to cut down on the manic cleaning that you would have to do later on.
Cleaning the exterior of your car is something that is important both for yourself as well as for other drivers and pedestrians around you. I will never forget the time that I was walking to class on campus at college when I saw a pickup truck (or what looked like one) absolutely covered from rim to rim in a thick, viscus coating of dry, caked on mud. Later on that day, I saw the pickup truck actually being pulled over by a police officer. No doubt, that person was being ticketed for their car being so filthy. You see, you have to have clear visibility out of the windows of your car so that other pedestrians and drivers can see you and make eye contact. In that case, you want to definitely make sure that your car is clean.
