Golden Monkey trek
The golden Monkey is endemic specie of blue Monkeys that live in the high altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park. This endemic specie of monkeys is commonly known to exist in the Volcanoes forest and Mgahinga forest in Uganda. After taking the Gorilla Trekking Trip, You will start the trek from the park head quarters at Kinigi and continue into the forest as you search for the endangered apes. Though viewing is kept to a maximum of one hour, travellers can get an up-close look at the golden monkey in its natural habitat. Take pictures of the monkeys as they play from the tree branches.
Cultural activities
On this day, you will take a cultural walk to the Iby’ilwacu cultural village where you may have the chance of interacting with the local people. The people who live mainly in this area were once poachers but after acquiring more knowledge about the importance of conserving nature, they have turned into site performers. You may get the chance of preparing local food, visit the traditional doctors, prepare the bows and arrows for hunting, listen to the African drums from the group, visit the traditional home for the king and so much more.
Bird watching
With your Birding guide, move into the Volcanoes National Park to begin searching for some of the birds that live in the forest. This Park is famous for being home to some of the Albertine endemics. On the way, you may have the chance of listening or seeing; Shoe bill stork, Bennett’s Woodpecker, White-winged Warbler, the Purple-bleasted Sunbird, the Rwenzori Turaco, the Red-faced Barbet, the Little Bee Eater, the Rockefeller’s Sunbird, Collared Apalis, Fraser’s Eagle Owl and so much more. There is more entertainment from the monkeys that swing from one branch to another.
Intore Dance
You will go for some entertainment from the Intore dancers. This is a traditional Rwanda ballet dance that was initially presented by the victorious Rwandan warriors to the King celebrating their success after war. The performers wear grass wigs, carry shields and spears and wear beads on their forehead. Presently, this dance is performed at functions and it is very entertaining. The performers keep dancing back and forth and later stretch out their arms with a raw aggression. There is a lot more to watch as the dancers keep moving their bodies. This can be done in the addition to the Rwanda Gorilla Trekking experience.
Kwita Izina.
On this day you will be part of the gorilla naming ceremony. This ceremony was launched in 2005 by H.E Paul Kagame and his wife when they named twin Mountain Gorillas. Since that day, many visitors both international and nationals look forward to this activity. This event is one of the ways used to conserve the mountain gorillas in Rwanda.
