Wildlife to See in Tasmania
If you’re planning to travel in Tasmania, you’ll eventually come across some of the wildlife. The Mammals
By most accounts, if you were to ask people to name animals that live in Tasmania, they’ll probably rattle off a few mammals. The Tasmanian devil has become almost a legend of lore, although it is very much an animal that lives here. This small animal was named “the devil” because of its sometime ferocious mentality as well as shrieks and shrills that it’s known for. In addition to that and the tiger, another famous mammal is the platypus. This is an animal that’s pretty misunderstood by some, as it’s an amphibious mammal that is only one of five that produces venom.
As you’d expect, there are also types of other marsupials that include kangaroos and wallabies, too.
The Reptiles
This part of the world has been known for quite a few reptiles, and Tasmania is no different. While there may not be many people who have a keen interest in reptiles – it’s completely understandable – there is still some very good reptile fauna in these parts. There are 17 different species of lizards and three species of snakes that are found in Tasmania. There is a problem, though; the relatively cool climate and high mountain ranges do present a problem for some of the reptiles. Over time, they have adapted to this challenge, though.
Birds of Tasmania
If you’re an avid bird fan, you’ll absolutely love Tasmania and the wide array of birds the island has. On the island itself, there are a total of 262 species of birds that have been recorded living in the wild on the island of Tasmania, including the rare Forty-spotted Paradolte. In fact, a fair amount of these birds are considered to be threatened. There are even some special visiting birds that have been seen on the island of Tasmania, and while you can’t necessarily expect certain birds, you’ll never be surprised as to what you’ll find.
