Tradition of sending Rakhi Gifts on Rakshabandhan
Raksha Bandhan is known by different names in different states of India, by different communities. Raksha Bandhan significance also varies with the region. Raksha Bandhan has a different significance in southern. Rakhi Purnima is celebrated in the northern and north-western parts of India with a lot of zest and esprit.
Aarti is done to the brother while the sister applies a tall red “tikka” with “Kum Kum” on his forehead. The word Aarti comes from the Sanskrit word “Aratrik” Performing aarti means placing a “diya” or oil lamp on to a “thalla” or platter and waving it before a person…in this case the brother three times around in a clockwise direction.
A brother-sister bond is the most blessed relationship.
They are special. They are our best friends.
We share jokes with them that no one else really understands. We share our memories of smiles and tears. We share our same parents, pets, silliness and also our holidays with them.
Often we go too long without telling them what they mean to us. Time flies, it seems too mushy, or we just forget. We find our own lives cluttered with more ‘important’ issues, we move away, or we work too hard and become too tired.
So, we’ll use this coming Thursday, 2nd August 2012, to get them some gifts for rakhi, hopefully, will remind them of how much we care the other 364 days of the year.
Few awesome picks for rakhi gifts this year –
gifts for sister:
•Spa – Pamper time! Remind her to take a break from the routine stress life and spend some time with herself. The most favorite of all!
•Scented Candles – Soothing and aromatic. Lit or not lit, girls like them in any form.
•Chocolates – It’s stereotypical but very true. Girls love chocolate. Anytime. All-time.
•Organizers – Most girls are born with this obsession of organizing everything around them, be it their kitchen, wardrobe, desk. A jewellery case or a desk organizer will surely be treasured by them.
•Diaries/Photo Album/Photo Frame – A perfect gift to treasure your old memories either in words or in a picture!
