Lunch Recipe Ideas

Lunch is a meal in danger of being boring. Keep in mind that there’s nothing wrong with a sandwich. But isn’t that what you’re bored with? Well, you’re bored because you keep having the same sandwich, or one very similar. You probably use bread you are familiar with and like, and you have a couple of meats that you trade off, or you smear on the same peanut butter day after day. To change up your sandwich, start by changing up the bread. Sometimes a simple change from sliced wheat bread to a seeded roll makes a sandwich sound more fetching. Possibly consider an open faced sandwich on bruschetta. While this is not always a good option if packing a lunch, it works well at home, or when you have friends over. It is an elegant way to serve sandwiches to a discriminating crowd.

What goes in a sandwich is just as important as what it goes on. The summer is a perfect time to try some fresh grilled vegetables on a toasty bun. Add in a whole wheat bun, and you have a digestive system delight. If you crave crunch, leave some of the vegetables raw. Raw vegetables provide for a crunch all dieters crave, and crunch keeps us coming back for more. Most sandwich recipes can be modified for those of us who are not bread hounds. It can be as simple as serving the sandwich ingredients in a thin wrap or maybe on a pizza crust. However, if you are on a serious carbohydrate reduction plan, eating the ingredients sans bread of any type is acceptable. This provides a more salad like lunch, but still very nutritious and tasty.

The final consideration in your lunch recipe ideas is the condiments which top off your sandwich. Standard recipes call for the use of mustard or mayonnaise. To spice up a sandwich which might be a little bland, consider adding a touch of wasabi. Be careful, because a touch is all most of us can handle. This condiment is better to add later, because too much wasabi can be a painful experience. For those with a milder palate, consider a splash of a flavoured olive oil. Olive oils are available for a variety of palates. The addition of the right blend can make any lunch recipe idea come alive.
