History of Artificial Christmas tree
Artificial Christmas trees have changed a lot since their introduction for the first time. In late 1800s artificial Christmas tree was originated in Germany to prevent deforestation. Metal wire was used to shape it and it was decorated with feathers of different birds like geese, ostriches, turkeys, or swans. In order to make them look like pine needles, the feathers were dyed green first. In those times, usually artificial Christmas tree was a small tree to be placed on a table or stand.
Abrush Company in 1930s invented an improved version of artificial Christmas tree. They used animal hair to make the needles of the trees as they used to do in making their brushes. Eventually they started using colored plastic in place of that. Though it was a vast improvement from those1800s trees but still they did not compared anywhere closer to real Christmas trees.
The tree made up of metallic paper came in the market in 1950s. Their needles were made from paper with metallic paint on them. They became popular but were not safe in any way. As those were made with paper they posed a fire hazard when decorated with traditional Christmas lights which were used at that time.
During the last twenty years or so, there have been big advances in making of artificial Christmas tree. Now they are more real looking. It is quite difficult to tell if they are real or artificial from a distance. They are made to resemble the different kinds of real Christmas trees like Balsam Fir, Douglas Fir, White Pine, and Scott Pine etc.
These days there are several varieties of artificial Christmas trees. They are less time consuming in assembling and decorating. You can purchase a pre-lit one too. Fiber optic trees are also available. The same fibber is used to make the needles that you find in fiber optic lights. There is no need to worry about the lights getting hot. You need to add your ornaments and decoration with the pre-lit and fiber optic trees if you want a customized artificial Christmas tree. If you do not wish to have the green colored artificial Christmas tree, then trees are available in different colours, such as white, purple, and blue. Even you can buy them with snow covered branches or glitter.
The real Christmas tree will always remain a part of Christmas tree tradition but today number of people using real trees is quickly declining as more than 70% of Americans prefer artificial Christmas tree.
