Visiting the District Of Wayanad

Wayanad is a district that can be found in north east of Kerala, India. This district was formed in November 1, 1980. It is known to be the land of thundering waterfalls, mountain caves, and large tracts of forest land, ancient ruins, tree houses, jungle trails, exotic wild life and aboriginal tribes.

1. Banasura Hill – this is ideal for trekking, the foot of the hill is developed too be Banasura Hill Resort. When you reach the top you will be able to see breath taking views of the Banasura Dam.
2. Pookote Lake – a 35 km fresh water lake that is surrounded by evergreen forest and mountain slopes. This is one of the most popular tourist spots in Wayanad. There are boating facilities that you can use. There are also spices and handicraft items for sale.
3. Meebmutty Waterfalls – this is 300 m waterfalls that have 3 stages. This is considered to be the second largest waterfalls in Kerala.
4. Kuruva Islands – this is group of three islands that can be found in the middle of one of the tributaries, there is a 950 acre tract of uninhabited land that is rich in flora and fauna. You will be able to see here different kinds of rare species of birds, orchids, and herbs. Considered to be a best spot for picnic and for nature lovers.
5. Kanthanpara Waterfalls – this is 30m fall is surrounded by bamboo forest and has a breathtaking beauty of the falls.
6. Chembra Peak – this has a 2100 meters above sea level altitude, considered to be the highest peak in Wayanad. After a day long trek you will be able to see a panoramic view, there is is also a summit that is a small heart shape of fresh water lake.
7. Begur Wildlife Sanctuary – this is can be found 20 km to the east of Mananthavady in Wayanad. This is the home of different kinds of species of animals such as elephants, deer, tigers boars and leopards. In the forest you will be able to find a lot of wealth herbs that has a high medicinal value. It is best to visit the sanctuary from December to May since there will be scarcity of water in Bandhipur, Nagarhole and Mudamali sanctuaries, animals are forced to migrate to Begur.
