1 Daily Acuvue Trueye and 1 Day Acuvue Moist Lenses
To the naked eye, most contact lenses look exactly the same. Although the 1 day Acuvue Trueye and the 1 day Acuvue Moist lenses seem to be on par at a glance, there are many differences between them in regards to how they are made, what they are made from, and how they work.
The company Johnson & Johnson make both of these types of contact lenses. As daily contacts, they can actually be healthier for the eye than other contacts because they are a new lens every day rather than the same lenses, which will tear and warp over time.
A daily lens is also much more convenient than other types of lenses because you will not require a contact case or multiple bottles of contact solution for the purpose of storing them until they are needed. Instead, simply throw them away when going to bed and open up a fresh pair every morning.
Although they are made by the same company and have many of the same features, the 1 day Acuvue Trueye and the 1 Day Acuvue Moist lenses are very different lenses. To start, they are made from different materials. The Trueye lenses are made with a polymer classified as narafilcon B and water. The Moist lenses consist of 42% etafilcon A and 58% water. The daily Acuvue Trueye lenses are also made differently than the daily Acuvue Moist lenses.
Trueye constant lenses are made using Hydraclear 1 technology and the Moist version are created using Lacreon technology. Both of these lenses protect against ultraviolet radiation, although with varying levels due to their composition. The 1 day Acuvue Trueye lens will filter out 96% of UVA radiation and 99% of UVB radiation. The 1 day Acuvue Moist lens is slightly less successful at this, filtering only 82% of UVA and 97% of UVB waves. While this is a major step forward in contact lens technology, it is interesting that neither one protects against UVC rays, which still penetrate the atmosphere and can cause serious damage. UVC rays are the same type used in devices for sterilisation. The last physical difference between the Moist and Trueye lenses is the amount of oxygen they let through.
The Trueye lets in 96% oxygen while the Moist lets in only 88% oxygen. The ability of these contacts to allow for oxygen transfer to the eye helps to prevent redness and irritation. There is, of course, a price difference between the lenses. The 1 day Acuvue Trueye lenses cost more, due to their superior technologies and protection. Both types of lenses are tinted light blue in order to make them easy to spot inside their packages. Acuvue has an inside out indicator on almost all of their contacts in order to ensure that users are able to put them on the correct way. This indicator consists of the numbers “1-2-3” which will appear reversed when the lens is put on inside out.
