This was however surpassed in the year 2009 when it won three trophies mostly known as the treble. These were in Copa Del Rey, La Liga and the UEFA Champions league.
The Catalans boasts of a magnificent stadium known as Camp Nou. This is the third largest stadium in the world with a sitting capacity of approximately 110,000 people. Despite the capacity, Camp Nou always remains filled whenever there is a match proving the fact that this is a sporting city. The club is currently being managed by Pep Gurdiola, who was a successful player at this club during his days. He has spearheaded this club to even greater heights like those of Johan Cruyff who won the local league, La Liga for four consecutive years when he was the manager. Pep as he is commonly referred to, has been able to win the treble and has shown interests of winning a sextuple. The current president of this club is Sandro Rosell.
The Catalans has produced some remarkable players in the history of football such as the magical Ronaldinho Gaucho, Luis Figo, Luis Enrique, Rivaldo and Patrick Kluivert among others. Currently Barcelona FC boasts of Lionel Messi, the current footballer of the year.
