A TOUCH OF RETRO IN THE 24TH CENTURY

Whilst most of the
lighting used is either LEDs or link-lighting, I made a mistake when designing
the Transporter area overhead lighting.
The mistake was using
4 circular Fluorescent tubes.
The main problem with
the tubes was, when they were switched on, they would make an awful clanking
noise which was definitely not the effect I wanted.

In keeping with the
Star Trek theme, I imported some dimmable LEDs from China to replace the
overhead clanking tubes, but I had to find a dimmer switch that would not only
function simply as a switch, but would have the appearance that would easily
fit into a science fiction design.

Eventually I managed
to find the perfect dimmer switch!

The RTS2030 Remote Control Dimmer from Retrotouch

Not only was this
dimmer switch perfect in design, but its function and appearance made it ideal
for the Star Trek apartment.

Whilst the Retrotouch
Dimmer switch has the wow factor, I felt it had to have more of a Star Trek
appearance – just to give it a more ‘Trekkie’ feel.

I constructed a unit
complete with a running light PCB and an LCARS panel plus a few other flashing
lights. Placed a piece of black see-through Plexiglas over the fascia and it
was done!

The Retrotouch Star
Trek interface dimmer light switch unit was complete.

It’s a dimmer switch
Jim, but not as we know it!
