Meadows Crossing is in the Game for Laker Football

Guess what? Fall is here and that means Grand Valley State University FOOTBALL SEASON! This is one of Meadows favourite time of the year. Last year, Meadows Crossing Apartments in Allendale MI sponsored almost every home football game for the 2011 football season. We are excited to sponsor the majority of the football games for the 2012 football season.
Here’s a little history on the Lake Football Program: Grand Valley began football in the 1970s and has been one of the most successful of all collegiate squads to take the field during that time period. Laker football has been a key element of Grand Valley’s rise from a small college to a regional university. President Arend D. Lubbers began the push for a team when he arrived in 1969. In the fall of 1971, the Lakers kicked off their first varsity season. “It was clear that Grand Valley was changing from a commuter college, to a residential school in need of activities such as music, drama and athletics,” Lubbers recalled.
In 2011, Despite a slow start, which included losing their first three conference games, the Lakers still managed an 8–3 overall record, winning their last seven games. That streak qualifies Grand Valley State as currently having the longest winning streak in Division II football. GVSU lead the GLIAC in many categories including scoring offense, total and rushing offense. The Lakers were led on offense by quarterback Heath Parling who lead the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 180.35, to go along with 2415 yards and 34 touchdowns. On the ground the load was shared between Hersey Jackson, Mike Ratay, Norman Shuford and Chris Robinson, each having at least one game where they led the team in rushing. Charles Johnson led the receivers with 1030 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively Brad Howard lead the team with 79 tackles. Andre Thomas finished second in the GLIAC in tackles for loss and sacks. Erik Thompson lead the team with five interceptions, two of which he brought back for touchdowns. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Since inception, GVSU’s overall winning percentage is .728, trailing only Michigan and Notre Dame among teams from all NCAA divisions. Their all time home record is 127–31–1.

What else does the Meadows staff provide to students?
Meadows Crossing also gives out free food at the football games. The staff brings along there grill and gives out free hot dogs and water. This is a great way for the employees to meet some of the students at Meadows Crossing. Last year not only did they give out free t-shirts and food, but they gave out $5.00 gift coupons to Brew Stir’s. Did I mention the airplane?
During the football games, Meadows Crossing has an airplane that flies around the stadium with their banner on it. On the back of the banner, Meadows Crossing puts special events on it so that you don’t miss out.
