Being Aware of the Negative Effects of Alternative Energy
There is more need today than in the past for alternative forms of energy. Technology has advanced so that these other forms are more feasible to use than ever before. However, there are some negative effects of alternative energy that many people are not aware of. These negative effects of alternative energy vary depending on the type of energy that is used. Some require equipment that is big and bulky, taking up a lot of space in a field or other open environment. In other cases, the energy is not consistent from day to day so that the energy is not as practical to use commercially as other types. In some cases, the energy can release toxic gases into the environment or require fossil fuels to create the alternative sources.

One negative effect of alternative energy is found in both solar and wind energy sources. Solar energy sources require large panels to be used in creating energy for commercial use. These are spread out over a large area of land and are eyesores to look at. Wind energy requires the use of large turbines which are also placed in groups that require a lot of space. In addition, the equipment takes a lot of money to put in place, which is not always feasible in that community. These negative effects of alternative energy sources paired with the fact that both wind and solar energy are not consistent from day to day often makes them inefficient for use.
Another negative effect of alternative energy is found in hydroelectric power sources. These sources also require that a large device is used, such as a dam. The dams are expensive to build and also require a large amount of space. Despite these negative effects of alternative water energy, there are also some good effects on comparison to the wind and solar power. The hydroelectric energy is a more consistent source of power since the water can be stored up behind the dam and released in certain amounts over time when it is needed. This keeps the energy source more consistent than the others and it is also clean for the sake of the environment.
Another source is biofuels which use animal and plant sources for energy. The negative effects of this form of alternative energy are more than others today. First, there is the cost of conversion of the various machines so that they can use the biofuels. There is also the use of fossil fuels in the production of some of these biofuels, which negates the good effects for the environment.
