Signs Of An Anxiety Attack

An anxiety attack is a sudden and sometimes intense occurrence of panic, anxiety and fear which can occur to anybody. The problem with an anxiety attack is that there are certain people to whom this occurrence may be more frequent than others. Many people are taken aback by the experience of an anxiety attack and others often fear the occurrence of one once they have experienced it. Apparently, these so called panic attacks may appear random and have no triggers but they are actually the result of a lot of factors. These factors can be a gathering of previous stresses or a direct result of a traumatic occurrence. These happenings may escalate and eventually lead to a shattered person who is afraid of so many things and depression may also set in when it is left unattended and untreated.

The cause of the anxiety attack is the age old reaction that one has when faced with something unpleasant or potentially unpleasant. The fight or flight reaction is embedded in all people and have been recognized as a reaction to stress and threats. The body physically aids the person by flooding itself with hormones to make a person more sensitive to threats and also more suitable for the fight or flight reaction. A person’s general reaction to the hormone adrenaline when it overwhelms the body is actually confusion due to the heightened senses. The anxiety attack can be felt as a disorienting and upsetting experience for many.

Anxiety Attack Manifestations

One can recognize the occurrence of an anxiety attack by the very physical symptoms and signs that accompany it. Initially, a person may feel the rush of adrenaline that precedes that anxiety attack and a clammy feeling is felt particularly in the hands. The feeling may also be a queasy stomach as well as a strong urge to visit the comfort room. Other signs of an anxiety attack are perspiration, paleness, trembling hands, a feeling of lightheadedness, nausea, a deafening roaring in the ears, elevated heart rate or a racing heart rate and many others.

One can recognize the onset of an anxiety attack by a tightening sensation in the chest area and shortness of breath before the other signs and symptoms may follow. Some people actually thrive when adrenaline overwhelms their system and they manage to control and take advantage of this hormonal charge. Others, on the other hand, succumb to the overwhelming sensation of an anxiety attack and feel the pain of it.
