Raymond Carver is noted for his capability to handle short story presentations through written essays that are designed to attract not only the attention but also the agreeable thought of the readers upon the primary message that the said author wanted to bring towards his target audience. Among the most distinct essays include one entitled “Mine” and another entitled “Little things”. These particular written essays are noted for the mirror on life that they portray for the readers. In this paper, examining the writing style of the author of the essays shall be presented so as to insist on the effectiveness of the written pieces.
The story “Mine” talks about the different emotions that are involved within situations that human individuals face. Through description of the situations and subjecting the main characters within the story into different events that makes the readers see how people respond to dire cases that they need to face in their lives. In this particular story, Carver tries to relate the actual living situation of real people as he inserts realities between the situations that he raises within the written piece. This approach makes the writing a rather relative reading for the audience, which has been expected by the author as something that would rather attract the readers into realizing their own situations as part of the lives of the story’s characters. It has been viewed by the author of the story that through this, the impact of the story would become more effective and directive into creating a picture of reality in the minds of the reading audience.
On the other hand, the essay “Little Things” actually notes a couple’s situation with regards certain events in their lives. Likely, Carver aimed to present the situations in a rather actual picture. He presented the characters within a setting that subjects them too exchange lines of words that are both hurtful and emotional, thus suggesting the drastic situation that the couple is facing. Considerably, this approach to the story made the entire personality of the characters presented in a rather direct way that would make it easier for the readers to relate easier to the story’s plot as presented by the author. AS the story develops, the situation’s progress has also been described through the exchange of words between the characters. The lesser lines for the narration of the situation made the turn around of the story’s plot faster and more effective for the readers to understand and get interacted with.
As it could be observed, both stories, “Mine” and “Little things”, authored by Carver, are outlined to present the real emotions that govern human individuals during certain situations in life that they need to face.
