The New HTC HD7

The HTC HD7 was recently released in the United States and the United Kingdom this past October 2010, and it has already garnered a fair amount of media and blog attention from people interested in the latest smart phone offering from the collaboration between media giant HTC and software giant Microsoft. The smart phone is marketed from the bottom up as an entertainment and media based smart phone, and as a result, offers a wide range of features targeted toward people looking for a complete multimedia experience from their smart phones. But what exactly are the specifications of this new phone, and what makes it worth purchasing over similarly styled and designed entertainment smart phones? These questions and more will be answered within this article.

What will definitely catch your eye about the HD7 is the front screen. It boasts a rather large 4.3 inch fully touch screen display that is designed to take the viewing experience to greater heights than ever. It is the defining feature of the smart phone and is the single component that is expected to drive its sales. Setting apart from almost all of the other smart phones on the market is it’s operating system, Windows Mobile 7 by Microsoft (the majority of which offer Google’s Android system for smart phones).

The 4.3 inch display does not have a greater pixel density than many of the smart phones it is competing with, but that does have the advantage of letting you easily read web pages and other text without having to zoom in all the time for readability. The large size of the display relative to most smart phones makes the viewing and surfing experience more like using a small tablet than using a smart phone. However, the quality of the display is not going to win it any awards, and it does not offer the most faithful reproduction of colors and textures. But if all you are looking for is a large screen on a smart phone, then look no further.

Another area where the HTC HD7 is reputed to shine is in its audio system. It includes what HTC markets as a virtual Dolby surround sound system, which is a fancy way of saying it should have a more three dimensional sound experience than the majority of smart phone sound systems out there. And that is largely true. Listening to audio or movies on the HTC HD7 will allow you to suspend slightly more disbelief than you would when experiencing similar media on comparable smart phones. However, in the end, it is still a smart phone and not a movie theater, and if you truly want a better sound experience, you will need to buy some awesome headphones or get a larger sound system, such as that in any laptop.

Last but not least, there are numerous accessories to consider, such as an extra battery or a protective case to keep your new smart phone going and protected from damage.
