Blended Learning Approaches to Employee Training

In today’s highly competitive and often cut-throat business world, companies need to streamline their training programs so that little or no time is lost from work. It is no longer feasible nor cost effective to require employees to leave their work stations so that they can spend a day or more off-site being trained in a classroom environment. Today, the most successful companies are using what is called blended learning

This type of employee training combines the more traditional instructor-led learning environment with the online learning. Using a combination of two training concepts that are proven to be very effective is what more and more employers are choosing to do. It is highly flexible and does not harm the productivity performance of the company using it.  Blended employee training is much more than a mixture of textbooks and e-books. Delivery methods today include CD-ROM, software, desktops, iPads and the rich media choices the internet offers to make modern day employee training self-paced and accessible around the clock.

Until just recently most employees, whether they wish to acknowledge it or not, have dreaded that time of year when their bosses told them that they must sign-up for a training program. The reason this news was not well received was because most often the employees were required to travel off-site to some classroom training program where they were forced to sit for hours and sometimes days at a time. Not only was it dull and uninspiring for the employees but it cost employers a small fortune to arrange the off-site training. Lunches often had to be paid for and travel arrangements needed to be made. Today however,  employees from companies large and small are much more receptive to training. This is because most training departments are now turning to more flexible training programs that offer a combination of online learning and instructor-led learning.

Offering a blended approach to development training is cost-effective and efficient. Employees are much more receptive to training when it is flexible and offers different platforms. The internet offers many options for training employees and considering that people today are very web-oriented, it only makes sense to incorporate computing into training programs.

There are many employee training companies available today that offer blended learning management systems. These learning programs are customized to meet the needs of a particular company and they are becoming commonplace in the business world. Large corporations with thousands of employees use them as do smaller businesses with just a few dozen employees.
