Nutritious Thanksgiving Recipes
Healthy Recipes on the eve of Thanksgiving…does this sound very unusual as well as uninteresting?
When we think of all the oily and health hazards recipes for instance stuffed turkey, cream enriched sauce, the buttered mashed potatoes plus the pumpkin pies, then the word healthy does not seems to be a perfect adjective to be used. Why can’t we try something new which is nourishing and delicious too?
For my family, Thanksgiving Day is a very favorable day and we celebrate this particular day in a impressive manner by welcoming friends and relatives for the dinner. So for this Thanksgiving Day special, i invented few ideas which i am going to share with you in this article. I like experimenting with different ingredients along with flavors. Don’t worry…nothing much I am going to do…just few adjustments to the regular Thanksgiving dishes.
Here are a few changes which I have done in the normal Thanksgiving Day menu:
Turkey: turkey is a delicacy and can become the attractive menu of your festival meal or any other celebration like Thanksgiving Day. Turkey is considered to be a lean animal and contains less fat. But when you basted it in butter, it becomes high caloric and fatty food. So what Idid here, inplace of butter, I used olive oils and baked it. This makes the turkey extremely tasty as well as healthy.
Bread: usually we use white flour for making bread. But I preferred to make with wheat flour and thus i serve the bread with baked turkey.
Good Gravy: Are you aware of the fact that gravy is the major culprits on the dinner table. I have used vegetable oil rather than turkey drippings when making the gravy. You can also opt for preparing low-fat broth-based gravy or any vegeterian gravy.
Dessert: dessert is considered to be the last but not the least course of the meal. Inspite of making pies and cheesecakesthat are most often loaded with creams, nuts plus caramel, I relied on serving fresh fruits as a dessert menu.
Another variation I did in my Thanksgiving dinner menu is the utilization of leftover ham. I made Ham and Swiss Rosti. Rosti is actually a Swiss potato pancake which can be served as a side dish but I added ham and thus make it into an easy and mouth-watering Thanksgiving menu. We can in fact enjoy the dish with steamed asparagus along with applesauce on the side.
This year it was comfortable for me to create changes in my family’s Thanksgiving menu. I just experimented with some changes and it was a hit. Why don’t you guys try and impress your family then?
